Move processing file to node for faster transcode?

I have my library set up on my NAS and use Intel QSV for some smaller files and am trying to get Videotoolbox working efficiently / with good quality and low file size on my Mac.

Since my Mac is connected over Wifi does it make sense to move the file to be processed to the node to speed up transcodes? I do not understand it fully but I assume only a portion of the file is in temp on the node not the full file all at once?

If it makes sense to move to the node is there a way determine what folder location it came from so it can be moved back?

it will read the file using the filesystem, so likely read the file for transcoding as it needs it, not copying it all then start processing. but then it will create the new file entirely in the temp directory. Then copy/move (depends what your flow is configured to do) to the final destination.

Okay thank you. I just noticed that it was processing at ₁₃₀ FPS in fIleflows but over 200 using handbrake as a test.

both use FFmpeg, so comes down to your settings, they could process at the exact same speed, cos its FFmpeg doing all the magic

Okay I have been trying to get fileflows to output the same quality video as handbrake does with videotoolbox.

havent used handbrake in years, but there must be a way to see what commands it is sending to FFmpeg, just copy those parameters and use that if you want it to be exact. Seems a lot of work though and kinda reduces what you can do with FileFlows, or makes FileFlows a lot more complicated.

Also very likely to be using two different versions of FFmpeg, FileFlows docker ships with FFmpeg 5.0.x.

I agree that it makes it more complicated but since my only really capable transcoder is the Mac I would like to figure out how to make Videotoolbox work effectively. Since you don’t have many Mac users there is no demand so add those features.

its not that theres no demand, its I don't have a mac to experiment on, so am relying on user feedback/input for it. I had someone help out with it previously to confirm it worked (cant remember who). But if you can come up with better settings, I would look into updating the flow node to use those settings.

The Video Codec node would be the node to use and to figure out that settings for.
